The Palestinian Health Ministry warned Thursday that more than 730,000 people lack proper healthcare services in the northern Gaza Strip.
The ministry spokesperson Ashraf Al-Qidra said in a statement that the Israeli occupation’s destruction of Al-Shifa Hospital, the oldest and largest medical facility in the Gaza Strip, has dealt a deadly blow to the healthcare system in Gaza, leaving more than 730,000 people in northern Gaza without concrete healthcare services.
To help address the urgent need of the population in northern Gaza, the ministry has called for setting up field hospitals and dispatching international medical teams across the areas in Gaza and in the north.
Al-Qidra accused the Israeli military of deliberate harm of the health system which is embodied in the premeditated target of medical personnel and patients during its attacks on hospitals.
According to AlJazeera analysis photos, 24 hospitals were damaged, including 6 hospitals in northern Gaza, 10 hospitals in Gaza City, 1 hospital in Deir el-Balah, and 7 hospitals in Khan Younis. The World Health Organization said the extent of destruction at Gaza’s hospitals is heartbreaking.
According to Gaza Government media office, 159 health institutions were targeted by the Israeli occupation. 32 hospitals have been rendered out of service by the Israeli attacks, 53 of health centers that the occupation took over are now out of service. 126 ambulances were targeted by the Israeli airstrikes.
All of the mentioned destruction has left 11,000 wounded people in need of to travel for “life-saving and dangerous” treatment. 10,000 cancer patients are at verge of death and need treatment. 350,000 chronic patients are at risk due to non-administration of medications.
Israel has waged a deadly military offensive on the Gaza enclave since the October 7th, 2023, claiming the lives of at least 33,900 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and wounding over 76,600 others amid mass destruction and shortages of necessities.
