DaysofPal – At least 12 people have been killed as a result of Israeli military operations in Lebanon’s south and Bekaa Valley, which is another breach of the ceasefire agreement with Hezbollah from 2024.
According to Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA), air strikes targeted the town of Riyaq in the Bekaa governorate on Friday. Initial reports confirmed six fatalities and more than 25 wounded.
The toll was later revised to more than 10 killed and at least 30 injured following a strike on a building in the area. Casualties were transferred to hospitals across the region, and search efforts for survivors continue at the site.
The Israeli army stated that it had struck “Hezbollah command centers” in the Baalbek area of the Bekaa Valley. A Hezbollah source told AFP that one of the group’s military leaders was among those killed.
In southern Lebanon, two people were killed in an Israeli attack on the Ein el-Hilweh camp near Sidon, according to Lebanon’s Ministry of Public Health. NNA reported that an Israeli drone hit the Hittin neighborhood inside the camp.
The Israeli military said it had targeted a “Hamas command center from which terrorists operated,” claiming the action was a response to repeated violations of ceasefire understandings.
Hamas condemned the strike, stating that it resulted in civilian casualties.
NNA reported that the attack on Ein el-Hilweh caused significant damage to a building formerly used by the joint Palestinian security force responsible for the camp. The premises had been rented by an individual who operated a kitchen distributing food aid.
Ein el-Hilweh, the largest Palestinian refugee camp in Lebanon, has previously been targeted. In November last year, an Israeli raid on the camp killed 13 people, including 11 children, according to the United Nations human rights office.
