DaysofPal — Hamas movement stated on Thursday that any serious international initiative to stabilize the Gaza Strip must tackle the fundamental drivers of the conflict, including Israeli aggressions in the territory and the broader question of Palestinian rights.
In a statement released after a special session of the Peace Council on Gaza held in the United States, the group argued that discussions about Gaza’s future should begin with a comprehensive halt to hostilities and the lifting of restrictions imposed on the enclave.
The movement said that securing the Palestinian people’s “legitimate national rights,” particularly freedom and self-determination, is essential for any durable political settlement.
Hamas warned that ongoing Israeli military activity and alleged violations of ceasefire arrangements undermine diplomatic efforts and weaken prospects for stability.
The group urged the international community and participating states to pressure the Israeli occupation to stop attacks, reopen border crossings, and allow unrestricted humanitarian assistance into Gaza.
It also called on mediators to ensure the implementation of previously agreed measures, prevent the obstruction of humanitarian commitments, and work toward a permanent ceasefire.
The statement comes as international actors debate plans for Gaza’s post-war governance, reconstruction, and security arrangements.
Despite formal ceasefire frameworks, tensions remain high on the ground, with sporadic violence and humanitarian concerns continuing to shape the situation.
International officials have cautioned that any stabilization strategy lacking durable security guarantees, consistent humanitarian access, and a viable political roadmap is likely to encounter significant challenges.
For now, Hamas’s remarks underscore the deep divisions surrounding proposals for Gaza’s future and highlight the difficulties facing diplomatic efforts to move from fragile truce arrangements toward a lasting settlement.
