DayofPal– Israeli officers at Ofer torture camp warned all Palestinian freed women that they would be detained again in the near future, further escalating punitive measures against other Palestinian women in Israeli prisons.
Speaking to Al Jazeera, freed Palestinian journalist Bushra Al-Tawil stated that the Israeli forces informed them they would be summoned to appear before Israeli military intelligence next month, adding that the released women would be rearrested soon.
Bishra was released as part of the first prisoner exchange deal between the Israeli occupation and Hamas on Sunday 19th.
Reflecting on her 11-month detention, Bushra recounted the scale of abuse and violations she endured at the hands of Israeli soldiers since her arrest from a friend’s home in West Bnak’s City of Al-Bireh.
She revealed that around 15 Israeli officers and soldiers brutally beat her in a savage manner, pointing their weapons at her and even threatened to kill her.
Bushra shared that one of the most harrowing moments during her imprisonment was being forced to remove her hijab. She described this as more painful than the physical assaults. She was handcuffed and taken to Damon Prison, where she was held in the women’s section.
At Damon Prison, the conditions were deplorable, with the shortages of food and the lack of respect for the women’s privacy. Bushra said Israeli male officers would enter their cells without notice. This, she said, mirrored the conditions she experienced earlier at Ofer military camp.
Another freed female prisoner, Nidaa Zgheibi, also said that she endured along with her fellow detainees some dire conditions that intensified after October 7th, 2023, saying the measures were unbearable.
She uncovered that they faced brutal suppression, with everything was being confiscated except of some clothes.
“Our rooms were emptied entirely, and constant night raids by the Yamas units disrupted any semblance of calm, often occurring at 3 or 4 in the morning,” she said.
Nida also explained that not night searches were relentless, and punishments were imposed for the most trivial reasons, including isolating female prisoners for insignificant matters.
