DayofPal– The Israeli occupation army announced Wednesday it has pulled out the army’s Givati Brigade from the Gaza Strip, following its participation in ground invasions against the towns and neighbourhoods of the Gaza Strip since October 27, 2023.
In a statement, the military confirmed that Givati forces, operating under the 162nd Division, are now regrouping and preparing for future missions after weeks of intense combat in the Jabalia area, north of Gaza.
A circulating video released by the army showed Givati troops and their vehicles retreating across the border into Israeli territory.
The statement revealed that the brigade suffered the loss of 86 soldiers and officers during the war on Gaza with dozens of military vehicles having been destroyed by resistance fighters.
The Givati Brigade, an infantry unit within the Israeli army, was established in late 1947 by the Haganah organization before becoming part of the broader occupation forces. The brigade operates under the Southern Command’s Armored Division, known as the Steel Division.
Led by a colonel, Givati is considered one of the elite units of the Israeli military and is stationed around the Gaza Strip. It has participated in previous ground offensives in Gaza in 2008, 2009, 2014, and most recently in 2023 during the Al-Aqsa Flood operation.
According to official figures from the Israeli army, the total death toll among its soldiers since the start of the Gaza war has reached 841, with 405 killed during the ground invasion alone.
However, allegations have surfaced accusing the Israeli military of concealing the true scale of its losses.
The Brigade withdrawal comes as a ceasefire agreement brokered by Qatar, Egypt, and the United States took effect on Sunday. The deal is structured into three phases, with the first phase lasting 42 days, followed by negotiations on the second and third phases.
