Israeli occupation forces announced on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, plans to build 450 settlement units on a 12-dunam area between the villages of Um Lisun and Jabal al-Mukaber in Jerusalem.
According to the proposed plan, the new settlement will be surrounded by a wall.
The Israeli “Local Committee for Planning and Building” is expected to approve the project next week.
This announcement follows previous initiatives by the Israeli occupation to establish settlements in Jerusalem, including “Givat HaHish” and “Kedmat Zion” settlements, in collaboration with the extremist settler group Ateret Cohanim, which aims at displacing Palestinians from their homes.
Furthermore, there are ongoing plans to establish settlements near the village of “Sur Baher” and the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in occupied Jerusalem.
In June 2023, the Israeli occupation approved seven schemes targeting Jerusalem as part of Israel’s ongoing efforts to displace the city’s indigenous population.
Additionally, the Israeli occupation gave the green light to the Silicon Wadi settlement project on the lands of the “Wadi al-Joz” neighborhood, as well as the construction of a massive settlement neighborhood in the town of Abu Dis.
In the plan that aimed to build 1,700 units in the village of “Beit Hanina,” the Israeli occupation also approved the construction of the largest Jewish women’s campus for the extremist “Haridei” community on a 13-dunam land in the displaced Jerusalem villages of “Lifta” and “Deir Yassin”.
In the town of “Jabal al-Mukaber,” the Israeli occupation approved the establishment of the “Kedmat Zion” settlement project on the town’s lands.
Furthermore, the Israeli occupation approved the construction of a settlement plan comprising 400 settlement units near “Qalandia” in the northern part of occupied Jerusalem.
These actions by the Israeli occupation aim to seize the lands of Palestinians in Jerusalem and impose a policy of settlement expansion, ultimately leading to their forced displacement from their lands and homes.
