The Arab League has denounced the Israeli occupation forces for expelling the Palestinian family, Sub Laban, from their home in the Old City of occupied Jerusalem and allowing Israeli settlers to take over the property.
The Sub Laban family, who have lived in their home for 70 years, were forced out yesterday based on an Israeli court order that claimed they had lost their protected lease rights. The family has been fighting a legal battle since 1978 against settler groups that seek to seize their house, which is located near Al-Aqsa Mosque, the third holiest site in Islam.
The General Secretariat of the Arab League said in a statement that the eviction was a “crime” that violated international law and human rights. It accused the Israeli government of pursuing a policy of “forced displacement and ethnic cleansing” against the Palestinian people in Jerusalem and other occupied territories.
The statement called on the international community to intervene urgently to stop the Israeli violations and to protect the Palestinians from further aggression. It also urged the United Nations to implement its resolutions that affirm the rights of the Palestinians to their land, property and holy sites.
