Israeli occupation ordered on Sunday, 13 August 2023 the Sub Laban family to pay almost 50,000 shekels to cover the costs of their expulsion from their home in July in favor of the Israeli settlers.
Jerusalemite Noura Sub Laban said that Israeli occupation ordered her family to pay $9,000 to cover the costs of their own home eviction following a decades-long legal battle.
Sub Laban added that the Israeli authorities have been trying for years to evict her family, and now they are asking for the legal and operational costs of their eviction.
She further pointed to the Israeli systematic policy of forcibly displacing Jerusalemites for the profit of illegal Israeli settler expansion.
In June 2023, the Israeli high court ruled that the Palestinian parents, 68-year-old Noura Ghaith and her 72-year-old husband Mustafa Sub Laban, could be forcibly expelled anytime between June 28 and July 13 after they had exhausted all legal options.
On July 11, Israeli forces and settlers expelled the Palestinian family from their home, in which they have lived for 70 years, so settlers could take over.
The Sub Laban family has been renting the home since 1953, while the eastern half of Jerusalem, including the Old City, was under Jordanian administration.
They were granted protected lease rights, but have faced a costly 45-year legal battle in Israeli courts against government-backed settler organizations to displace them.
Israeli occupation escalated the demolition and displacement orders against the Palestinian homes and properties in the towns and villages in occupied Jerusalem, aiming to force the Palestinian residents to leave their own lands under the pretext of building without a permit.
In June 2023, Israeli occupation forces leveled 20 Palestinian-owned structures in occupied Jerusalem leaving its people homeless. They issued demolition orders against dozens of others, according to data collected by Days Of Palestine.
In 2022, Israeli occupation forces forcibly demolished more than 209 inhabited Palestinian facilities in various areas of occupied Jerusalem. Israeli occupation also confiscated a number of Palestinian-owned lands and properties in favor of Israeli settlers’ expansion most notably the land of Hamra in the Silwan neighborhood.
