DaysofPal- The Government Media Office in the Gaza Strip renewed its warning on Sunday of an impending humanitarian catastrophe due to the ongoing closure of border crossings and the tightening of the suffocating blockade for more than 64 consecutive days.
In a statement received by SND News Agency, the media office said that the Israeli occupation continues to prevent the entry of baby formula, nutritional supplements, and all forms of humanitarian aid, leading to more than 70,000 children being hospitalized due to severe malnutrition.
It added that under this systematic blockade, more than 3,500 children under the age of five face imminent death by starvation, while nearly 290,000 children stand on the brink of doom. Meanwhile, 1.1 million children suffer daily from the lack of the minimum amount of food required to survive.
The office confirmed that the Israeli occupation is committing a crime of genocide through the weapon of starvation, “amid disgraceful international silence.”
It stressed that the systematic starvation policy practiced by the occupation against Gaza’s children, and the prevention of food and medicine constitute “a full-fledged crime of genocide” under international law.
The office held the international community responsible for its complicity through silence and failure to pressure the Israeli occupation to end this “criminal and immoral blockade” and to save the lives of 1.1 million children in Gaza before hunger and violence claim more innocent lives.
It also called on the international community, United Nations institutions, and relevant humanitarian and international organizations to act urgently to press for the opening of crossings and the immediate and consistent entry of baby formula and nutritional supplements, as well as an end to the blockade.
Meanwhile, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) stated that the humanitarian situation in Gaza is beyond comprehension due to the impact of the complete blockade and the prevention of aid entry for over two months.
In a post on the “X” platform, UNRWA said that as the comprehensive blockade on Gaza enters its ninth week, international efforts must be unified to prevent this humanitarian catastrophe from reaching unprecedented levels. The agency renewed its call for an immediate ceasefire.
UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini warned that the Israeli blockade on Gaza “will silently kill” more children and women daily, in addition to those being killed by airstrikes.
