DaysofPal- Marwan Al-Hams, Director of Field Hospitals at Gaza’s Ministry of Health, stated that the number of deaths in Gaza due to a lack of medical resources is equal to those killed by Israeli attacks.
He emphasized in a press release on Thursday that Israel’s obstruction of the evacuation of several critically ill patients who were supposed to go overseas has resulted in their deaths.
“We urgently need field hospitals, medical teams, medicines, and essential medical equipment,” Al-Hams stressed. “We have been informed that field hospitals are ready to enter Gaza, but the occupation is blocking their entry.”
Despite these challenges, the first batch of wounded Palestinians and patients left Gaza last Saturday through the Rafah border crossing to receive medical treatment in Egypt. The World Health Organization welcomed the evacuation but warned that between 12,000 and 14,000 people still require urgent medical evacuation.
A ceasefire in Gaza took effect on January 19 and is set to last 42 days in its first phase, with negotiations underway for subsequent phases mediated by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States. According to the agreement, indirect negotiations for the second phase must begin by the 16th at the latest, with a final agreement expected before the end of the fifth week.
Since the ceasefire, four prisoner exchange operations have taken place, revealing stark disparities between the conditions of Palestinian prisoners released from Israeli jails and those freed by the resistance.
International legal actions against Israel have intensified.
In November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former army minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
Additionally, Israel faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice over its military actions in the enclave.
Between October 7, 2023, and January 19, 2025, Israeli forces—backed by the United States—have carried out attacks in Gaza that have resulted in the deaths and injuries of over 159,000 Palestinians, the majority of whom are women and children. More than 14,000 people remain missing, making this one of the worst humanitarian crises in modern history.
