Israeli Media Paints Scenario of Preemptive Strike Against Egypt
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

DayofPal– The current Israeli war on Gaza, began on October 7, 2023, has significantly impacted regional dynamics, particularly straining political and diplomatic ties between Egypt and Israel.

Tensions have escalated further following remarks by former U.S. President Donald Trump suggesting the displacement of Palestinians to Egypt and Jordan—an idea that Israel supports despite firm Arab opposition.

Amid this growing unease, Israeli analysts have begun speculating on potential military confrontations with Egypt, particularly in light of reports suggesting an imminent Egyptian arms deal with China that could shift the regional balance of power.

Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir sounded an alarm on Tuesday, claiming that “the Egyptian military is arming itself and preparing for war. This should be a wake-up call.”

Israeli media outlets have highlighted Egypt’s potential acquisition of advanced Chinese fighter jets equipped with long-range JC-10 air-to-air missiles, which boast a striking range of approximately 300 kilometers.

These state-of-the-art aircraft, if delivered, could significantly enhance Egypt’s aerial capabilities, allowing its forces to engage enemy aircraft from a considerable distance—potentially tilting the scales in future aerial engagements.

A report from the Israeli news platform “Nziv” titled “Urgent Readiness Required to Counter Egyptian Military Threat” argues that Israel must prepare for the possibility of another war with Egypt. The report underscores the strength of Egypt’s conventional forces across air, land, and sea, noting that the Egyptian military has undergone significant modernization over the past four decades.

The construction of operational infrastructure in Sinai, along with extensive networks of bridges, tunnels, and crossings over and under the Suez Canal since 2007, further solidifies Egypt’s strategic capabilities.

Additionally, Egypt is said to possess substantial reserves of fuel, ammunition, anti-aircraft weaponry, armored vehicles, and spare parts. Given these developments, the report calls for Israel to mobilize diplomatic, media, financial, military, and technological resources to devise innovative and rapid solutions for strengthening its military posture in response to the perceived Egyptian threat.

The report poses several critical questions: How many troops does Egypt currently have ready for war with Israel? How quickly could Egypt mobilize a full-scale military operation? What strategies should Israel adopt to effectively defend against an Egyptian offensive? How might an Egyptian surprise attack unfold given the extensive military training Egypt has undergone over the past two decades?

Other concerns raised include the potential for Egyptian commando landings through tactical breaches, the impact of a maritime blockade or large-scale aerial and missile strikes on Israeli strategic targets, and the risk of Egypt neutralizing Israel’s nuclear deterrence. The report also speculates on whether Egypt possesses non-conventional weapons and how Israel could mitigate such a threat.

To counteract this evolving situation, Israeli strategists have proposed a military and political plan dubbed “Aaron’s Awakening,” advocating for a large-scale preemptive strike on Egypt.

Israeli media has also pointed to recent statements by Egyptian Defense Minister Abdel Meguid Saqr, who called for heightened combat readiness within the Third Field Army. This unit is responsible for securing the Suez Canal cities, North Sinai, and Egypt’s border with Gaza.

Saqr’s directive to his forces to “maintain full readiness for any escalation” was interpreted by Israeli outlets as an indication of a confrontational stance against Israel and the U.S.

During a recent visit to Egyptian military units stationed in Sinai and Rafah, the Egyptian defense minister reportedly reinforced the need for vigilance, further stoking Israeli concerns.

According to Israeli media, Cairo’s continued military buildup and its assertive rhetoric suggest an increasing risk of a regional military confrontation—one that Israel believes it must prepare for with urgency.
