DaysofPal- Local testimonies and medical reports have revealed a shocking incident in which Israeli forces tortured a toddler, approximately one and a half years old, in front of his father in eastern Al-Maghazi refugee camp in central Gaza.
The incident has sparked outrage and urgent calls for an international investigation.
According to eyewitnesses and local residents, Osama Abu Nassar had gone out two days ago with his young son, Karim, to purchase basic necessities.
Abu Nassar had reportedly been suffering from severe psychological distress following the loss of his only source of income, a horse he relied on to support his family.
Sources close to the family indicated that he had been undergoing psychological treatment in recent days due to noticeable changes in his behavior.
While near his home close to the eastern border of Al-Maghazi, the father found himself caught under heavy gunfire from Israeli forces.
Witnesses reported that a drone forced him to leave his child on the ground and approach a military checkpoint, where he was detained and stripped of his clothes.
Residents who later informed the family stated that Israeli forces subsequently took the child into custody.
During the father’s interrogation, the child was subjected to torture in front of him as a means of coercion to extract confessions.
According to a medical report, the toddler, Karim, was subjected to severe torture, including having cigarettes extinguished on his body and metal nails inserted into his foot, resulting in serious physical and psychological harm.
The family reported that the child was released after approximately 10 hours of detention and handed over through the International Committee of the Red Cross in Al-Maghazi market. However, his father, Osama Abu Nassar, remains in custody.
The family has appealed to international and human rights organizations to urgently intervene to secure the father’s release, ensure the child receives continued medical treatment, and open an independent investigation into the incident, holding those responsible accountable.
This incident comes amid escalating reports of violations against civilians in Gaza, with growing concerns over the deteriorating humanitarian and psychological conditions, particularly among children, who continue to bear the brunt of the ongoing conflict.
