Israeli forces detained 340 Palestinians, including 39 kids and 14 women, in September 2023, according to the Palestinian Center for Prisoners Studies (PCPS).
While detaining Palestinians across occupied Palestine, Israeli forces conducted extensive house raids, conducting arbitrary searches, causing damage to property, and subjecting residents to physical assaults.
It’s noteworthy that there are nearly 5200 Palestinians detained in Israeli prisons, including 170 children, 38 women, and 1300 administrative detainees.
Jerusalem Records the Highest Rate
In the occupied city of Jerusalem, a significant spike in detentions was observed, accounting for over 33% of the total detentions, as Israeli forces detained a total of 140 Palestinians, among them 11 women and 22 children, including an 8-year-old child.
Riyad Al-Ashqar, the Director of PCPS, expressed that the Israeli occupation has intensified its attacks against the Jeruslaemites by all means, with a particular focus on increased detentions.
Furthermore, Israeli occupation courts have issued numerous orders for deportation, house arrest, and administrative detention against residents of Jerusalem.
As per the center’s report, Israeli occupation courts have issued a total of 60 deportation orders, which prevent Palestinians from accessing the Al-Aqsa Mosque or the Old City of Jerusalem.
Additionally, these courts have issued 19 house arrest orders targeting Palestinian children and women, along with 6 administrative detention orders and 9 detention orders against others.
So far in 2023, Israeli troops have detained over 2190 Palestinians, including 495 minors and 68 women and girls, in occupied Jerusalem, the Palestine Center stated.
Israeli forces detained four Palestinian fishermen during Israeli warship attacks offshore Gaza, where two of them were injured from the Israeli bullets. Their small fishing boats have been also confiscated by Israeli troops.
It’s noteworthy that the Israeli occupation has been severely besieging the Gaza Strip for over 16 consecutive years by which it controls the lives of over 2.2 million Palestinians and isolates them from the outside world.
Kids and women
Al-Ashqar stated that Israeli forces detained 39 Palestinian children, one of whom is at the age of eight, namely Mohammad Aby Snaina, from Jerusalem.
Reportedly, Israeli forces physically assaulted Abu Snaina in the vicinity of Bab Al-Amoud in occupied Jerusalem, subsequently detaining him.
Meanwhile, Israeli forces detained 14 women, including Hana Al-Barghouthi, the sister of Na’el Al-Barghouthi and a mother of three detained sons.
They also detained Palestinian woman Fatima Amarna, 44, from Jenin after brutally assaulting him while she was at one of the gates to the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
The Israeli occupation has escalated the administrative detention against the Palestinian people, targeting 296 Palestinians from all categories.
Israeli courts have issued 296 administrative detention orders against Palestinians, 120 of them are renewal orders and 167 orders that have been issued against Palestinians for the first time.
The administrative detention orders targeted two Palestinian women, namely Fatima Abu Shallah and Hanan Al-Barghouthi.
So far in 2023, Israeli courts have issued almost 2600 administrative detention orders against Palestinians, including new and renewal orders.
There are currently 1,300 administrative detainees in Israeli occupation prisons, including 21 minors and three women. They are distributed in three central prisons, namely Negev, Ofer, and Megiddo.
