Assassinations, Deadly Raids
Throughout the past month of August, Israeli occupation forces persisted in employing “targeted assassinations” against individuals they labeled as “wanted,” a blatant breach of international humanitarian laws that prohibit extrajudicial killings.
On the 6th of August, a specialized Israeli military unit carried out an assassination, resulting in the deaths of three young men, one of whom was a child.
This tragic incident occurred after the unit opened fire on their vehicle near the Araba junction, situated to the south of Jenin.
The victims, Naif Abu Suwais, 27, Khalil Abu Naasa, 21, and Baraa Al-Qaram, 15, were traveling in a vehicle in the town of Araba when Israeli occupation forces unleashed a barrage of gunfire upon them, claiming all their lives.
Furthermore, on the 17th of the same month, Israeli soldiers executed another young man by detonating his residence in Jenin.
The occupation forces laid siege to the dwelling of Mustafa Al-Kustoni, 32 years old, in Jenin and subsequently triggered an explosion, resulting in extensive damage to the house.
Mustafa’s brother was detained and subjected to physical abuse during the incident. Tragically, Mustafa lost his life as a consequence of this operation.
Children
Qusai Omar Mohammad Suleiman, 16, was struck by live ammunition at approximately 4:00 a.m. on August 15 by Israeli forces during their incursion into Aqbat Jabr Refugee Camp near Jericho.
Othman Atef Mohammad Abu Khurj, 17, sustained gunshot wounds to the back of his head and left arm during an early morning Israeli military operation in the Palestinian town of Al-Zababdeh on August 22, located south of Jenin.
Khaled Al-Zaanin, 14, was fatally shot by Israeli forces near the Al-Musrara neighborhood in Jerusalem at around 8 p.m. It’s reported that Khaled attempted a stabbing attack at a light rail station, but was disarmed by a bystander. While on the ground, an Israeli soldier shot and killed him and confiscated his body.
Palestinians Fighting Back
Conversely, Palestinian youth continued to engage in acts of resistance against the occupation and its settlers in the West Bank and Jerusalem.
During August, three young men lost their lives while carrying out operations involving shooting and vehicular incidents—one from Jerusalem, another from Jenin, and a third from Ramallah.
In the same month, a youth from Nablus was martyred while preparing an explosive device, while another from Gaza tragically perished in an accidental explosion at a resistance site in the central region.
This year has been considered one of the bloodiest since 2000, with over 236 Palestinians losing their lives at the hands of Israeli forces.
