DaysofPal- At least 30 Palestinians were killed and many others injured when Israeli forces bombed areas surrounding Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahia, northern Gaza. The hospital, one of the few remaining medical facilities in the region, was stormed by Israeli forces under heavy fire, forcing the evacuation of patients and the wounded.
“There was a series of air strikes on the northern and western sides of the hospital, accompanied by intense and direct fire,” Hossam Abu Safiya, the director of the Kamal Adwan Hospital, said on Friday.
He reiterated that the situation in the hospital and its vicinity was “catastrophic,” amid a large number of casualties, including four medical staff.
“We are shocked to see hundreds of bodies in the streets surrounding the hospital,” he added.
The Israeli occupation forces carried out a large-scale arrest campaign targeting patients, their companions, and carers, while forcing others to evacuate toward Gaza City.
Dr. Abu Safiya noted that the hospital has no remaining surgeons, and its medical supplies are on the verge of complete depletion.
Eyewitnesses described intense gunfire and artillery shelling around the hospital, which has been repeatedly targeted and raided since early October 2023. In addition, Israeli forces reportedly detonated a residential block near the hospital, killing several civilians and injuring others. Medical staff and patients were forcibly removed from the hospital, and several individuals present inside were detained.
A 16-year-old boy in a wheelchair was killed and at least 12 others, including medical personnel, were injured in an Israeli drone strike on a hospital compound at Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza on Thursday, according to the hospital’s director and the Gaza Ministry of Health.
There was also an attack earlier yesterday that killed seven Palestinians at a house behind Kamal Adwan Hospital.
Kamal Adwan Hospital remains one of the few medical facilities still partially functioning in northern Gaza, an area where Israeli forces have intensified their offensive, effectively cutting off humanitarian aid for nearly two months.
Late last month, an Israeli drone strike killed Ahmed al-Kahlout, the director of Kamal Adwan Hospital’s intensive care unit, as he passed through the facility’s entrance gate. Palestinian medical sources have accused the Israeli forces of attempting to forcibly shut down the hospital as part of broader efforts to depopulate northern Gaza.
The ongoing attack on Kamal Adwan Hospital is a significant reflection of the broader, deliberate ethnic cleansing campaign currently unfolding in Gaza. As noted by an Israeli historian, the hospital’s repeated targeting underscores the systematic efforts to remove Palestinians from the region, with medical facilities, such as Kamal Adwan, being key victims of this violent strategy.
