An Israeli airstrike hit a building in Beirut’s southern suburbs this Friday afternoon, September 20, 2024, killing three people and injuring 17 others, including children.
Lebanon’s official news agency reported that an Israeli F-35 fighter jet fired two missiles at an apartment in the Jamous district of southern Beirut.
In addition, the Lebanese Ministry of Health confirmed the initial death toll of three and reported at least 17 people wounded in the strike.
The attack occurred around noon, sending thick plumes of smoke into the sky over the densely populated area.
Ambulances rushed to the scene as emergency workers pulled victims, including children, from the wreckage in the al-Qaim neighborhood, according to Al-Manar TV.
Israeli media claimed that the strike targeted Ibrahim Aqil, a senior Hezbollah official, though it remains unclear whether he was among the casualties.
In a statement, the Israeli military acknowledged responsibility for the attack, describing it as a “precise operation” in the Beirut area.
Earlier today, Hezbollah says it fired at least 140 rockets into Israel after southern Lebanon was targeted by Israeli attacks.
