Hamas movement issued a statement Friday morning rejecting a brand-new proposal circulated by Israeli media about a ceasefire deal in Gaza.
Hamas said the Israeli government has presented a far-reached proposal to the United States that stipulates the release of all Israeli captives held in Gaza in exchange for granting a safe passage out of Gaza to its Cheif Yahya Al-Sinwar.
Ghazi Hamad, Hamas negotiating delegation member, confirmed in a press statement that the Movement has strongly rejected any new proposals on the table, ruling out the July 2nd proposal presented by the Biden administration.
Hamad mocked the new Israeli proposal and deemed it a negotiating bankruptcy, accusing Netanyahu of setting roadblocks in ceasefire negotiations.
“This is, of course, a ridiculous proposal that reflects the negotiating bankruptcy of the occupation and its denial of what has transpired over the past eight months of negotiations. The negotiations are indeed stalled due to the rigidity of the Israeli position.”
The Israeli proposal ironically discusses the notion of disarming the Gaza Strip and the mechanism of implementing a new governance after the end of the war.
In his previous remarks, Hamas official Osama Hamdan said that the post-war day will be a Palestinian and that they really want a joint Palestinian government in Gaza once the war ends.
“We agreed that a national reconciliation government should be formed to manage Gaza, and the following day must be Palestinian,” he confirmed.
Jihad Taha, Hamas spokesman, also told Al-Araby Al-Jadeed that what the Israeli occupation is trying to promote regarding the exit of Al-Sinwar isn’t even accepted in Hamas’s agenda.
He, in addition, reiterated Hamas committment to what was agreed upon on July 2 proposal, demanding a clear executive mechanisms and practical measures that would successfully lead to a permanent ceasefire.
Taha also revealed that the Movement would never consider new proposals that serve the Israeli agenda and its “criminal projects” that allow aggressions in Gaza and the West Bank.
He called on the international community to stick to its responsibilities and stop the series of massacres, crimes, and genocide against the Palestinians.
Palestinian social media activists took to their platforms to reject the Israeli proposal, warning of perilous ramifications on the ground.
Adham Abu Selmiya wrote: “The Israeli occupation’s proposal for securing Yahya Al- Sinwar’s exit via a safe passage in exchange for Israeli army’s withdrawing from the Gaza Strip remind us of a similar offer made by the American-French initiative to the Palestine Liberation Organization in the 1980s during the Beirut invasion.”
He added: “At that time, the organization accepted the offer, only for it to be followed just a month later by the Sabra and Shatila massacre.”
