The Heavy Cold is a lethal American bomb used by Israeli army to attack Mawasi Khan Younis tents.
The Israeli newspaper “Maariv” revealed that the Israeli army used a new controversial US-made bombs in its deadly attack on Mawasi Khan Yunis on Saturday, which resulted in the killing of more than 90 people, most of them women and children and the injury of other 390.
The newspaper confirmed that the bombs are directed by the American JDAM system, known as “Heavy Cold,” and designed with advanced laser-guided and GPS systems that rely on advanced sensor technology as well as artificial intelligence.
It pointed out that the bombs are extremely accurate and resistant to communication and directed electronic warfare; its use constitutes an actual verbal agreement from the U.S. administration on the policy of Israeli war in the Gaza Strip.
According to the Israeli army radio, the Israeli Air Force dropped 8 JDAM bombs during the massacre, which led to the killing and injury of about 390 Palestinians.
“Maariv” quoted the director of the Israeli military technology company “Asghard,” Rotem Mei Tal, confirming that these bombs were “the root of controversy between Israel and US over U.S. aid a few months ago,” adding that their use on Saturday in Khan Yunis indicates a tacit U.S. approval on Israel’s policy of war and an end to the controversy over heavy bombs.
JDAM bombs have proven to be precise and can be deployed from aircraft in any weather conditions and over long distances from the target (up to 27 kilometers depending on the launch altitude). Different types of heavy free-fall bombs can be upgraded to JDAM.
Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) is a cost-effective package manufactured by Boeing. It consists of guidance devices attached to unguided bombs, transforming them into smart munitions capable of operating in all weather conditions.
JDAM-equipped bombs utilize integrated guidance systems such as inertial navigation alongside Global Positioning System (GPS), providing a range of up to 15 nautical miles (28 kilometers).
The weight of JDAM-equipped bombs ranges from 500 pounds (227 kilograms) to 2000 pounds (907 kilograms).
When JDAM is attached to a bomb, it is designated as GBU (Guided Bomb Unit), replacing the bomb’s original designation.
The main components of the JDAM system include a tail kit with aerodynamic control surfaces, a strake kit, and a compact control unit that integrates both inertial navigation guidance and steering control unit for precise targeting.
