DayofPal– The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor has accused the Israeli occupation army of deliberately targeting medical teams in northern Gaza as part of a calculated strategy to dismantle the healthcare system and deny Palestinians access to life-saving care.
The Monitor described these actions as a genocidal crime against Palestinians in their hometown. One documented attack involves Dr. Saeed Judeh, the sole orthopedic surgeon in northern Gaza, who was killed while traveling between Kamal Adwan Hospital and Al-Awda Hospital to treat patients.
According to the Monitor, an Israeli drone struck him deliberately, shooting him in the head and causing his death. In another example of this systematic targeting, a paramedic named Ali Al-Qurra was struck by a drone near Kamal Adwan Hospital. The hospital itself has endured over 20 bombings in the last ten days, resulting in injuries to both medical staff and patients.
The report underscores Israel’s policy of assassinating and eliminating Palestinian expertise, pointing to the killing of 1,057 medical personnel since the assault began on October 7, 2023. The toll also includes 135 scientists and academics, among them Professor Abdel Salam Abu Zaidah, who was killed alongside six others in an airstrike on Gaza City. Journalists and IT specialists have not been spared either, with 193 media professionals targeted since the war began.
The Monitor warned that such attacks severely undermine Palestinian society’s scientific and economic progress, sow fear among skilled professionals, and obstruct efforts for rapid recovery from the large-scale destruction.
Reiterating its urgent plea to the United Nations and the international community, the Monitor called for immediate action to end the genocide in Gaza. It demanded a complete arms embargo on Israel, accountability for its crimes, protection for medical personnel and facilities, and unrestricted entry of humanitarian aid to address the dire needs of the population.
The Monitor also insisted on the full withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza to ensure lasting peace and recovery.
