DayofPal– The Israeli municipality in occupied Jerusalem has renamed a key stretch of land after U.S. President Donald Trump in honor of his support of Israeli settlement.
The 4,000-acre tract, stolen from Palestinian lands and known as E1 or Mevaseret Adumim, will now bear the name “Trump One” (T1), celebrating the Trump’s influential role in brokering a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.
More importantly, the step comes as a gift for Trump after he cancelled sanctions on extremist Israeli settlers who ignite violence against Palestinians in West Bank. The sanctions were previously imposed by the outgoing president Joe Biden.
Announcing the decision, Mayor Guy Yifrach praised Trump’s support for Jewish communities and settlers’ assaults in the West Bank, stating that his second term offers a “unique opportunity” to enhance Israeli presence in the region.
“Trump’s unwavering commitment to Israel makes this the perfect time to strengthen Jewish communities, particularly in West Bank,” said Yifrach.
The strategically located T1 zone located within Ma’ale Adumim’s municipality, has long been a contested area. Plans for constructing over 3,000 homes for settlers in the zone have faced international opposition, particularly from the Biden administration as it ignites tension with Palestinians.
Mayor Yifrach described T1 as “a strategic asset” and urged Israeli leaders to establish continuity between Ma’ale Adumim and Jerusalem.
This is not the first time Israel has honored Trump with a namesake. In 2019, following Trump’s recognition of Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights, Israel named a new community “Ramat Trump” in his honor.
His administration also garnered praise from Israeli leaders for reversing Obama-era policies, supporting Israeli settlements, cutting funding to the UNRWA, and imposing sanctions on International Criminal Court officials
