DaysofPal- Numerous UN organizations, including UNRWA and UNICEF have recently warned of an imminent famine in the northern Gaza Strip due to the ongoing Israeli genocide in the region.
The Israeli occupation forces (IOF) have been launching a fierce military campaign in northern Gaza, particularly in Jabalia camp, resulting in the killing of over 2,500 civilians, the majority of whom were women and children.
The IOF adopted an ethnic cleansing policy against civilians who have refused to leave their homes in response to Israeli demands for forced displacement.
This has led to numerous Israeli massacres, as homes have been bombed with residents still inside.
IOF have also destroyed the civil defense and ambulance system in the region, bombed hospitals, destroyed bakeries and water wells, and imposed a strict siege, preventing the entry of food supplies and medical aid.
These Israeli crimes have exacerbated famine and worsened the tragic conditions of civilians in the region, prompting severe international warnings to declare northern Gaza a disaster area.
In response to UN and international warnings, the IOF troops have attempted to mislead the international community by bringing limited aid to certain areas in Beit Hanoun, northern Gaza.
However, less than 10 hours after the IOF brought in three trucks carrying water, flour, and canned food—most of which was reportedly stolen before reaching Beit Hanoun in northern Gaza—the Israeli forces stormed the town again and besieged the shelters.
The IOF forcibly removed the displaced people from the shelters, expelling them under threats of violence and gunfire, before they burned the aid that had reached the area.
Philippe Lazzarini, the Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), warned that famine is likely to occur in the northern Gaza Strip, which has been experiencing ‘Israeli’ genocide and ethnic cleansing for over a month.
Lazzarini’s statements coincided with the Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor’s call for an official declaration of famine in the northern Gaza Strip, highlighting ‘Israel’s’ use of starvation as a weapon.
In a statement released on Sunday, the Monitor stressed that more than 50 days have passed since ‘Israel’ blocked the entry of aid and essential goods to hundreds of thousands of besieged civilians in northern Gaza.
Hamas stated that the brutal Israeli attack on Beit Hanoun, mere hours after supplies had reached the displaced, reflects a determination to continue the war of extermination.
“The Israeli occupation follows an act of deliberate deception, designed to create the false impression of responsiveness to calls for aid to northern Gaza, while the occupation forces persist in committing massacres,” Hamas added.
The Hebrew newspaper Haaretz also quoted Western diplomats warning that the amount of aid that actually entered the Gaza Strip in the past day was far from meeting the demands of the US administration and other Western governments.
The famine is worsening in the northern Gaza Strip as the Israeli genocide continues in the region, with a tight siege imposed that prevents the entry of food and medicine, while the killing and bombing of civilians continues.
