DayofPal– The Israeli occupation authorities have greenlighted the seizure of at least 64 dunams of lands from the village of Umm Tuba, south of occupied Jerusalem.
The Jerusalem’s governorate revealed that the families in the town of Umm Tuba submitted an appeal to the Israeli occupation court to halt the settlement procedures after it was discovered that about 63 dunams of the town’s land were registered under the name of the “Jewish National Fund.”
This measure threatens the forceful eviction of approximately 30 Jerusalemite homes, where 139 Palestinians reside, putting them at risk of forced displacement.
Based on the testimony of lawyer Yazid Qawar, who represents the residents alongside lawyer Mohammed Dahla, the Jerusalem’s governorate clarified that the land registration processes were carried out without notifying the citizens or involving them.
Qawar added that that the Israeli occupation authorities adhered to what is known as the “Israeli Land Settlement Law,” which is increasingly used as a pretext to seize Palestinian lands and transfer them to settlement entities.
The governorate noted that one citizen discovered these procedures when he applied for a building permit at the Israeli occupation authorities, only to be surprised that the land he intended to build on was registered under the name of the “Jewish National Fund.”
Upon further investigation, it became clear that similar seizure operations had included dozens of dunams of the town’s land.
The Jerusalem’s governorate affirmed that these measures pose a serious threat to the very existence of Jerusalemites in their land and fall within the policy of Judaizing the city and uprooting its original inhabitants.
The governorate further called on human rights organizations and international bodies to take urgent action to halt these violations, which aim to alter the demographic character of Jerusalem and impose new realities on the ground.
