DaysofPal- Despite a public call by U.S. President Donald Trump urging an immediate halt to hostilities, Israeli forces launched one of the most intense bombing campaigns yet across Gaza City, killing dozens of civilians and devastating entire neighborhoods.
The renewed wave of airstrikes and artillery fire comes as Hamas indicated potential openness to diplomatic efforts, raising hopes for de-escalation. However, Israel responded with overwhelming firepower instead, shattering any expectations of a ceasefire.
‘Insane, Merciless Bombing’
Major Mahmoud Basal, spokesperson for Gaza’s Civil Defence, described the latest Israeli assault as “insane” and “merciless.” Residents endured relentless artillery shelling, drone attacks, and the explosion of booby-trapped vehicles, particularly in the city’s northwest. Israeli troops advanced temporarily along al-Shifa and al-Nasr streets before retreating after detonating multiple explosive-laden vehicles.
Witnesses reported widespread destruction of residential buildings throughout Gaza City. In a single night, hospitals documented 63 civilian deaths from Israeli attacks, including 38 in Gaza City alone. Airstrikes flattened homes in al-Nasr, al-Zaytoun, Sheikh Radwan, Tel al-Hawa, and al-Sabra.
In central Gaza, six civilians were killed and 20 wounded in a drone strike targeting a family residence, according to medical personnel at al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital.
Humanitarian Crisis Deepens
The Gaza Municipality issued an urgent appeal to international bodies and humanitarian agencies, warning that nearly 500,000 civilians—primarily women, children, and the elderly—are facing catastrophic conditions amid worsening shortages of food, water, and medicine.
Despite repeated global calls for restraint, Israel’s military campaign continues to intensify. Trump’s ceasefire call, alongside diplomatic overtures and appeals from humanitarian organizations, has been ignored. Instead, the assault on Gaza has only grown more lethal.
As the humanitarian crisis spirals, critics warn that the lack of accountability is enabling war crimes and deepening the region’s suffering.
