DaysofPal – The Civil Defense in Gaza warned on Monday that Israeli forces are intensifying their assault on Gaza City, leveling entire neighborhoods and leaving hundreds of bodies unrecovered beneath the rubble.
Since August 6, over 1,000 buildings in the Zeitoun and Sabra neighborhoods have been totally demolished, according to spokesman Mahmoud Basal. He stressed that rescue crews are unable to recover hundreds of victims trapped under collapsed homes because of relentless airstrikes and the lack of necessary equipment.
“There are grave fears the occupation forces will continue their advance into Gaza City at a time when our crews cannot cope with the intensity of these attacks,” Basal said, warning that no place in Gaza is safe.
Earlier, the Ministry of Interior in Gaza accused Israel of carrying out daily massacres against civilians using massive quantities of highly explosive munitions in residential neighborhoods. It described the campaign as part of Israel’s plan to occupy the city and “a blatant practice of genocide.”
The ministry urged citizens to remain in their homes or move only to the nearest place they feel safe, cautioning against heeding Israeli evacuation orders.
It recalled how months of forced displacement to the south had left families suffering under “lies and deceptions” by the occupation.
“The steadfastness of our people remains a shield against the occupation’s plans to confine them to narrow, uninhabitable areas,” the ministry said, warning that Israel is subjecting Gaza’s population to massacres, starvation, and psychological warfare in an effort to force mass displacement.
The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor said in a different statement that Israel’s current offensive is “a new phase of the crime of genocide.”
It described the widespread destruction in Gaza City as a “systematic erasure” designed to impose military control and force over one million people into displacement.
The rights group documented the destruction of high-rise buildings and residential areas in Saftawi and Jabalia al-Nazla, despite the heavy presence of civilians.
Similar attacks have leveled large parts of the al-Tuffah, al-Shuja’iyya, and al-Zeitoun neighborhoods, while in al-Sabra, entire residential blocks have been wiped out. On August 21, the Abu Sharia family home was struck, killing eight people, including four children.
In less than 30 percent of Gaza City, more than a million Palestinians are currently under siege, facing starvation, bombardment, and the threat of forced displacement, according to the group.
