DayofPal-The Israeli occupation army has announced the launch of “Iron Walls”, a new military operation that targets Jenin camp and its neighbourhoods.
The decision came following a wave of incitement from Israeli leaders and media officials amid reports that the Palestinian Authority was fully aware of the operation beforehand.
According to Hebrew source s, the Israeli political leadership made the decision to initiate the operation in Jenin and its refugee camp during a cabinet meeting last Friday.
Israeli Channel 12 reported that senior officials in the Palestinian Authority received messages from high-ranking Israeli security officials about the planned operation before it began. Subsequently, the PA security forces withdrew from the area, clearing the way for the Israeli operation to proceed.
The Palestinian Authority forces were waging a war in Jenin against resistance fighters proudly imitating regular Israeli practice, blocking the delivery of food and medicine to camp residents.
Since its alleged “The Protection of the Homeland” campaign started, 10 Palestinians were killed, including two children and a journalist, dozens od Palestinians were arrested and tortured, including physician, and dozens were handed over to Israeli forces. The repressive campaign spread in Jenin, Nablus and Tulkarm, where homes were burned down and roads were destroyed.
Israeli channel further revealed that the operation had been in the planning stages for several months, delayed until now due to the failure of the Palestinian Authority’s security measures to deliver the desired results. The timing also followed ceasefires in Lebanon and Gaza, allowing Israel to redirect its focus to this front.
The decision was further fueled by a promise made by Prime Minister Netanyahu to Minister Smotrich last Friday, in which he vowed to launch an intensive and ongoing campaign there.
Additionally, Israel had been waiting for former U.S. President Donald Trump to assume office, fearing that such an operation might provoke a Security Council resolution against Israel that could be used against Trump by the Biden administration.
Israeli military analyst Amir Bohbot stated that the operation aims to “preserve the Israeli army’s freedom of action” throughout the West Bank. Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich added that the campaign marks the beginning of a shift in Israel’s security strategy in the West Bank, targeting the eradication of Palestinian resistance in the area—a goal tied to religious Zionist objectives presented during Friday’s cabinet session.
The Iron Wall’s operation has killed seven Palestinians on Monday and injured about 40 others on Jenin. This coincided with the withdrawal of PA security forces from the city. Reports indicate that PA security personnel vacated their positions in Jenin shortly after the arrival of Israeli special forces, refraining from engaging in any confrontations or defending the camp.
Israeli forces escalated the assault with a special unit infiltrating the Jaberiyat neighborhood, while an Israeli aircraft bombed a vehicle outside the refugee camp. Simultaneously, helicopters fired at multiple targets in the area. Reinforcements poured in from nearby Israeli military bases, tightening the siege on Jenin.
Local sources reported that PA security vehicles withdrew from the camp’s perimeter as Israeli forces expanded their incursion. According to witnesses, PA forces waited until Israeli special units entered before retreating, avoiding clashes or attempts to defend the camp.
The Palestinian security forces’ spokesperson confirmed that Israeli troops opened fire on both civilians and security personnel during the invasion, resulting in numerous injuries, including one critical case among security forces.
