Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) notified Thursday, May 4, 2023, of the eviction of the old municipality building located in the Old City of occupied Hebron, in preparation for its seizure and handing it over to Israeli settlers.
Local sources reported that the occupation forces hung a notice on the door of the old municipality building, located in the “Ain Askar” area near the entrance to the old town, stipulating its evacuation in preparation for its seizure.
The mayor of Hebron, Tayseer Abu Sneineh, stated that this is a flagrant violation by the Israeli occupation on Hebron municipality’s property, stressing that this building is completely owned by Palestinians and it has all the legal and official documents proving that.
Abu Sneineh called on the international community, human rights organizations and UNESCO to exert real pressure on the Israeli government to stop its illegal settlement plans and protect this cultural heritage, especially since the region is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, which requires its protection and preservation.
