DaysofPal- In a stark escalation of attacks on civilians and press workers, Israeli occupation forces (IOF) assassinated Palestinian journalist Hassan Islayh at dawn on Tuesday while he was receiving treatment at the Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Yunis, southern Gaza.
According to press sources, an Israeli drone strike targeted Islayh inside the hospital’s burns unit, where he was being treated for injuries sustained during a previous Israeli attack on a journalists’ tent near the same facility on April 7.
The Government Media Office in Gaza condemned the attack, stating that the deliberate targeting of a medical facility—resulting in the killing of a journalist—is both a war crime and a crime against humanity. It stressed that the bombing of Nasser Medical Complex is a direct and blatant violation of international law, particularly the Geneva Conventions, which prohibit attacks on health and medical institutions.
With the killing of Hassan Islayh, the number of journalists killed since the beginning of the war has now risen to 215.
The Government Media Office called for an immediate and thorough international investigation, urging institutions such as the International Criminal Court (ICC) to hold the Israeli occupation accountable for ongoing violations of international humanitarian law and crimes committed against journalists, civilians, and protected facilities in Gaza.
