DaysofPal- The International Committee to Break the Siege of Gaza has held the Israeli occupation fully responsible for the safety of activists participating in the global “Sumud Flotilla,” urging immediate and unconditional release of all detainees.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the committee cited lawyers from the “Adalah” center, reporting that the detained flotilla participants informed their legal team of severe mistreatment and abuse by prison guards.
The statement also highlighted that the detainees’ medications were confiscated and access to safe drinking water was denied.
Many activists have launched hunger strikes, refusing both food and water, in protest against the abuse and their unlawful detention.
Some have also refused medical treatment to avoid interaction with the “perpetrators of the genocide.”
Israeli naval forces seized 42 vessels from the global flotilla as they sailed in international waters toward Gaza, detaining hundreds of international activists on board.
On Saturday, a Turkish Airlines flight arrived in Istanbul from Ramon Airport in Eilat, in the Israeli occupation, carrying 137 activists, including 36 Turks and 23 Malaysians, who were part of the flotilla.
According to the social media account of the ship Omar Al-Mukhtar, seven activists from that vessel have arrived in Istanbul.
The account noted that 10 Libyan activists and others of various nationalities who were also on board Omar Al-Mukhtar remain detained by the Israeli occupation forces.
