DaysofPal- For the second day in a row, hundreds of thousands of displaced Palestinians used the Al-Rashid and Salah al-Din roads to continue their journey back to the northern Gaza Valley on Tuesday.
Families defied plans for permanent displacement and made their way back, creating a joyful and determined atmosphere.
Despite the challenges, thousands of displaced individuals began their journeys early, determined to return to their homes in Gaza City and the North Gaza governorates. Many traveled with limited possessions, facing a 7-kilometer trek. The line of vehicles along Salah al-Din Road extended for over 3 kilometers, a testament to their resilience.
The Government Media Office (GMO) reported that all government teams and agencies are working tirelessly to facilitate the return of displaced individuals.
More than 5,500 government employees have been deployed to ease the return process, clearing routes and providing support. On Monday alone, 300,000 displaced Palestinians successfully returned to Gaza City and the North Gaza governorates.
In a statement on Monday evening, the GMO revealed that the return marked a significant step after 470 days of suffering during the mass extermination war launched by the Israeli occupation army. The displaced returned from the southern and central governorates, using the Al-Rashid and Salah al-Din roads as key corridors.
Hamas announced that an agreement had been reached through mediators to allow displaced individuals to return to the northern Gaza Valley starting Monday, January 27, 2025.
In a press release, Hamas stated, “As part of the Movement’s efforts to remove the pretexts set by [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu regarding the return of displaced individuals to the northern sector, and to resolve the issue of the captive held by the resistance, Arbel Yahud, Hamas proposed to the mediators that an additional exchange take place involving the captive Arbel Yahud and two other captives of the occupation before next Friday, while the agreed exchange set for next Saturday remains as planned, involving three captives of the occupation.”
The agreement followed Hamas’ negotiations with mediators to ensure the safe return of displaced individuals.
The return of displaced Palestinians comes amidst a ceasefire that took effect on January 19, 2025, between the Palestinian resistance and Israel. The ceasefire, mediated by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States, is set to last for an initial 42 days, during which further negotiations will take place for the second and third phases of the agreement.
