Hamas: We Will Respond Soon to US Plan, with Key Reservations

DaysofPal- The Hamas Movement stated on Thursday that it has recorded reservations on the latest US proposal to end the ongoing war in Gaza, and will announce its official stance in the coming days.

Mohammad Nazzal, a member of Hamas’ political bureau, said in a press statement that the movement remains “serious about reaching understandings aimed at halting the genocide in Gaza,” while continuing consultations with mediators and Arab and Islamic partners.

“Hamas has the right to express its observations on the plan, in a way that safeguards the interests of the Palestinian people,” Nazzal stressed.

He reaffirmed that the movement rejects any arrangement that could lead to the erosion of Palestinian rights or the continuation of the war.

According to Nazzal, Hamas received the US plan last Monday evening and began both internal and external consultations the following day. He emphasized that the group does not operate under a “time pressure” for issuing its response.

Meanwhile, Axios reported that the proposal currently on the table differs significantly from the one earlier approved by Washington and several Arab and Islamic states.

The report said officials from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, and Turkey reacted angrily to the revisions, while Qatar had urged the Trump administration not to publish the full text of the plan earlier this week.

The White House, however, moved forward and called on regional states to support it.

The changes reportedly stemmed from a six-hour meeting last Sunday between U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff, senior adviser Jared Kushner, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and his confidant Ron Dermer.
During the talks, Netanyahu succeeded in securing amendments that give Israel a strategic advantage.

Key alterations include linking any Israeli withdrawal from Gaza to measurable progress in disarming Hamas, while granting the Israeli veto power over every stage of implementation.

Even if the three withdrawal phases are carried out, Israeli forces would remain stationed in a designated “security zone” inside Gaza until the Israeli occupation itself declares the territory “fully secured from renewed terrorist threats”, a condition that effectively allows an indefinite military presence.
