Hamas: US Draft Resolution on Gaza Undermines Palestinian Rights

DaysofPal- The Hamas Movement has sharply rejected a proposed U.S. draft resolution on Gaza, saying it fails to meet the political and humanitarian rights of the Palestinian people and imposes arrangements that advance Israeli objectives rather than addressing the devastation caused by two years of war.

In a statement on Tuesday, Hamas said the draft resolution “does not rise to the level of our people’s rights and demands,” particularly in the Gaza Strip, which it described as having endured “two full years of brutal genocide and unprecedented crimes committed by the terrorist occupation before the eyes of the world.”

The Movement noted that the consequences of the war continue despite the announced end of hostilities under U.S. President Donald Trump’s plan.

Hamas warned that the proposed resolution would place Gaza under an international trusteeship mechanism, something it said Palestinians and their national factions categorically reject.
The group argued that such arrangements aim to achieve goals the Israeli occupation failed to secure militarily.

The statement further accused the proposal of severing Gaza from the rest of the Palestinian territories and attempting to impose new political realities that undermine Palestinian national principles, including the right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.

Hamas reaffirmed that resistance to occupation “by all means” is a legitimate right under international law, adding that the issue of weapons remains an internal national matter tied to a political process that guarantees an end to the occupation and the realization of Palestinian statehood.

The Movement strongly opposed any mandate for an international force inside Gaza that includes disarming resistance groups, saying such a role would undermine neutrality and make the force “a party to the conflict in favor of the occupation.”

If an international force is created, Hamas said it must be deployed only along the borders to monitor ceasefire arrangements, operate under full United Nations authority, and coordinate exclusively with official Palestinian institutions, without any Israeli role.

Its tasks, Hamas added, should focus on ensuring the flow of humanitarian aid rather than acting as a security authority over Palestinians and their resistance.

The Movement stressed that humanitarian assistance, relief for displaced families, and the opening of border crossings are basic rights and should not be subjected to political bargaining or complex mechanisms.
It urged the rapid opening of all crossings and the mobilization of resources through the UN and agencies such as UNRWA to address the “unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe” caused by the war.

Hamas called on the international community and the UN Security Council to uphold international law and human values by taking decisions that ensure justice for Gaza and the Palestinian people.

This includes halting the “ongoing genocide” in the Gaza Strip, initiating reconstruction, ending Israeli occupation, and enabling Palestinians to exercise their right to self-determination and establish an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.
