DaysofPal – Hamas has called on international courts to prosecute those behind the U.S.- and Israel-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), issuing the demand just as the foundation announced the end of its emergency mission in the Gaza Strip. The movement said the shutdown comes after months of deadly aid operations that left hundreds of Palestinians killed while attempting to obtain food.
In its statement, Hamas said GHF’s withdrawal follows “a chain of daily massacres” throughout the war, accusing the foundation of facilitating the killing of starving civilians and aid-seekers.
The group described the closure as “a deserved end for an entity that collapsed with the project of genocide and engineered starvation carried out in partnership with the Israeli occupation.”
Hamas added that from the moment GHF entered Gaza, it functioned as “an extension of the occupation’s security system,” implementing distribution mechanisms “void of any humanitarian principle.”
These operations, it said, created perilous and degrading conditions for civilians, resulting in thousands of casualties due to Israeli sniper fire and deliberate targeting at distribution points, evidence, Hamas contended, of the foundation’s complicity in atrocities.
The movement said that GHF represents the occupation’s inability to impose its will on the Strip. It stressed that any project cooperating with Israel or executing its “fascist and dehumanizing policies” is bound to collapse because it is built on repression and the violation of human dignity.
Hamas urged international legal institutions to pursue and prosecute GHF and those who directed its operations, arguing that accountability is necessary “to prevent the repetition of such disasters and to protect humanity from organized international terror.”
Since May 27, Israel, with U.S. support, has imposed a degrading aid distribution system through the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, forcing civilians to choose between starvation or risking death by Israeli fire.
The Government Media Office reports that 995 Palestinians were killed, over 6,000 were injured, and 45 went missing as a result of the operations around GHF distribution points.
The foundation, jointly controlled by U.S. and Israeli authorities, has now formally announced the end of its mission after months of criticism and international concern about its methods and humanitarian impact.
GHF was tasked with distributing food aid last May after Israel imposed sweeping restrictions on established international agencies. However, United Nations experts and humanitarian organizations condemned the model as unsafe, insufficient, and dangerous, arguing that it exposed civilians to lethal risks.
The UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights confirmed that hundreds of Palestinians were shot dead by Israeli forces while attempting to reach GHF distribution centers. UN Special Rapporteurs had previously called for the foundation’s immediate dissolution and the prosecution of its operators, saying it was “exploited for covert military and geopolitical purposes.”
