Hamas Rejects UN Security Council Resolution, Calls It a Cover for Israeli Goals

DaysofPal – The Hamas Movement sharply criticized the UN Security Council’s newly adopted resolution on Gaza after 13 member states voted in favor of a revised U.S. draft on Monday night while Russia and China abstained.

In a statement, Hamas said the U.S.-sponsored resolution “does not meet the political or humanitarian rights of our Palestinian people” and instead imposes a framework designed to achieve the objectives of the Israeli occupation “which it failed to accomplish through its genocidal war.”

Hamas reaffirmed that its weapons and armed resistance are “directly linked to the existence of the occupation,” calling resistance by all means a legitimate right guaranteed by international law.

The movement said the American proposal includes “an international trusteeship mechanism” over Gaza, an idea it rejects completely along with all Palestinian factions.

The statement warned that tasking an international force with duties inside the Gaza Strip, including disarming the resistance, strips such a force of neutrality and turns it into “a party to the conflict in favor of the occupation.”

Hamas stressed that if an international force is ever created, it must work exclusively with official Palestinian institutions, with no role whatsoever for Israel. It said such a force should be limited to border areas, tasked only with separating forces, monitoring a ceasefire, and operating “entirely under United Nations supervision.”

The movement urged the international community and the Security Council to uphold international law and humanitarian values and to adopt decisions that “deliver justice for Gaza and for the Palestinian cause.”

Hamas also called for guaranteeing the right of Gaza’s population to receive humanitarian aid and for opening all crossings without “political manipulation or blackmail.” It stressed that the unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe caused by Israel’s assault requires immediate, large-scale access to aid through UN agencies, particularly UNRWA.

The group accused the U.S.-drafted resolution of seeking to isolate Gaza from the rest of Palestinian territory and to impose new political realities “far removed from our people’s national rights and principles.”

The Security Council resolution, adopted on Monday evening, calls for establishing a permanent and comprehensive ceasefire in Gaza and ensuring unhindered entry of humanitarian assistance.

Its provisions include the creation of an “International Stability Force” that would cooperate with Israel, Egypt, and newly trained Palestinian police units to help secure border areas and oversee the disarmament of Gaza.

The force would also be tasked with the “permanent removal of weapons from non-state armed groups,” protecting civilians, and establishing humanitarian corridors.

The resolution further authorizes the creation of a “Peace Council,” a transitional governing body for Gaza that would, at least on paper, be chaired by Donald Trump, with a mandate lasting until the end of 2027.
