leader of Hamas, Ali Baraka, told Reuters Monday that the movement has considered the latest proposal presented to them by ‘Israel’ during a round of negotiation in Cairo, clearly declared that its a rejected Israeli offer.
The proposal suggested the release of Israeli women and children held by Hamas, in exchange for the release of up to 900 Palestinian prisoners in the first stage of the ceasefire.
The first stage of the proposal also includes the return of Palestinian civilian refugees to the northern Gaza Strip, with the allowance of entry for 400- 500 aid trucks daily.
The leader attributed many reasons for rejecting the offer as it did not mention a permanent ceasefire but rather spoke of sustainable calm, allowing the Israeli occupation to carry out military attacks within a specified tempo targeting specific goals it calls “military or dangerous” to justify any future military aggression.
The movement will not accept division or fragmentation, and its position is clear: the direct return of displaced Palestinian to their homes in northern Gaza without conditions or restrictions.
Rejection also made as Israeli occupation has defined the number of its captives in full without addressing Palestinian prisoners, leaving the file, names, and numbers subject to Israeli mood swings, knowing that the Israeli extremist government of the religious-nationalist will not agree to release prisoners except on a trickle basis.
“We demand the complete return of the displaced without condition or restriction, while the Israeli occupation wants civilians and rejects military personnel. We say a complete withdrawal, while the occupation offers a limited displacement operation and keeps the return of the displaced under Israeli supervision and control,” the leader added.
He reinstated that the agreement, if not comprehensive and inclusive, must include a permanent ceasefire, the return of displaced Palestinians without condition or restriction, the provision of relief and reconstruction, and the completion of a clear-cut prisoner exchange deal.
