DaysofPal- The Hamas Movement warned of a further deterioration in the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, accusing Israeli occupation of escalating a “starvation engineering” policy by tightening restrictions on the entry of aid, including flour.
In a statement on Sunday, Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem said the restrictions had contributed to rising bread prices at a time when residents are already facing severe economic hardship, where children are standing in long lines to receive food distributions.
Qassem described the current limitations on aid as “a blatant violation” of the ceasefire agreement, claiming that Israeli occupation has allowed in only about one-third of the quantities of supplies that were agreed upon.
He argued that the shortfall in basic commodities, particularly flour, is deepening the crisis for families in the enclave, where unemployment and poverty rates are among the highest in the region.
Hamas also rejected recent comments by international envoy Nickolay Mladenov, who said that aid was entering Gaza in the agreed quantities.
The movement said his remarks “do not reflect the reality on the ground,” insisting that the level of aid is far below what is needed and what was promised under the truce arrangements.
The group called on mediators and states that sponsored the ceasefire to take a clear stance on the deliberate Israeli policy aimed at tightening pressure on Gaza’s population.
It urged them to act to stop the restrictions, warning of serious repercussions for the humanitarian situation in the territory if the current conditions persist.
Local authorities in Gaza have previously sounded the alarm over a looming flour shortage and rising food insecurity, accusing Israel of using access to basic supplies as a tool of political pressure.
