DaysofPal – Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem said on Sunday that growing discussion in Israel about the movement’s alleged efforts to rapidly rebuild its military capabilities in terms of personnel and weapons constitutes “clear incitement” aimed at justifying the continuation of Israel’s military offensive in the Gaza Strip, the daily killing of Palestinians, and violations of the ceasefire agreement.
In a press statement, Qassem called on media outlets to exercise accuracy when reporting information from Israeli sources, particularly on issues that, he said, involve incitement against the Palestinian resistance and the people of Gaza.
Qassem said Hamas, along with the Palestinian resistance factions in Gaza, remains fully committed to the agreement to end the war in the Gaza Strip.
He also called on mediators and guarantor states to ensure that Israel complies with the ceasefire agreement and halts its ongoing violations.
Qassem’s remarks came after a new escalation in Gaza early Sunday, when Israeli forces carried out a series of ceasefire violations, including large-scale demolitions of homes, live fire, naval shelling, and military vehicle movements. The incidents reportedly left several Palestinians injured.
Israel launched a genocidal war on the Gaza Strip in 2023; according to the movement, more than a quarter of a million Palestinians were killed or wounded, the vast majority of them civilians, including women and children. Hamas also said the offensive resulted in the near-total destruction of Gaza’s civilian infrastructure, with entire neighborhoods devastated and rendered uninhabitable before a ceasefire agreement was signed two years later under a plan announced by U.S. President Donald Trump.
According to Hamas, despite the movement’s commitment, along with other Palestinian resistance factions, to implementing the plan, Israel has continued its violations by carrying out near-daily attacks that have killed and wounded thousands of Palestinians, although at a lower intensity than during the broader military campaign.
Under Trump’s proposal, a body known as the “Peace Council” was established to discuss arrangements for governing Gaza after the war.
Qassem said Hamas has expressed its readiness to relinquish control of Gaza and implement all provisions of the agreement. However, he said Israel has refused to carry out clauses requiring its withdrawal from areas it occupied in the Gaza Strip.
Instead, he said, Israeli occupation forces have expanded the territory under their control while discussions continue about plans to displace as many Palestinians as possible, alongside repeated statements indicating that Israel intends to maintain its military presence rather than withdraw.
