DayofPal– Hamas movement announced on Tuesday that it has entered a new round of ceasefire negotiations, emphasizing its commitment to engaging responsibly and positively.
The talks include discussions with the U.S. envoy for prisoner affairs, as efforts intensify to halt Israel’s ongoing assault on Gaza.
Senior Hamas official Abdul Rahman Shadid, speaking in a press statement, expressed hope that this latest round of negotiations would yield tangible progress toward implementing the second phase of talks.
The goal, he stated, is to secure an end to the aggression, facilitate an Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, and finalize a prisoner exchange deal.
Shadid urged mediators to exert maximum pressure on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his far-right government to honor previous agreements. This includes reopening border crossings, allowing humanitarian aid into Gaza, and adhering to the terms of any negotiated ceasefire.
The Hamas official condemned Israel’s continued closure of Gaza’s crossings as a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions.
“This is a war crime and an act of collective punishment that threatens the lives of innocent civilians,” Shadid declared as he accused Israel of weaponizing humanitarian aid, using it as leverage for political blackmail.
Shadid further denounced the Israeli army’s escalating violence across Palestinian territories, citing ongoing killings, forced displacement, home demolitions, mass arrests, and torture.
He highlighted that for the tenth consecutive day, Israel has maintained its blockade on Gaza, preventing the entry of food, medical supplies, and electricity, worsening an already dire humanitarian crisis.
In a stark warning, Shadid accused Israel of advancing a dangerous plan to expand and legitimize its so-called “Greater Jerusalem” settlement project, describing it as a grave crime and an alarming escalation.
He called on Arab and Islamic nations, along with the United Nations and the international community, to take urgent action to prevent Netanyahu’s extremist government from further violating international laws and treaties.
“The criminal Netanyahu, who is wanted by the International Criminal Court, is attempting to accelerate his annexation plans,” Shadid stated.
“He seeks to erase Palestinian history, uproot communities in the West Bank and Jerusalem, and forcibly change the demographic reality of Palestinian refugee camps, all under the guise of his ‘Greater Jerusalem’ vision.”
Hamas sees the ongoing siege, military aggression, and systematic attacks on Palestinian land, holy sites, and cultural identity as part of a broader strategy to impose a new Jewish reality on the ground.
