DaysofPal—The Hamas Movement has strongly denounced the latest Israeli military attacks on Lebanese territory, calling them a dangerous escalation and blaming Israel for rising regional tensions.
In a statement released Monday evening, Hamas condemned the brutal Israeli aggression against Lebanon, asserting that the attacks form part of a broader pattern of repeated violations of Lebanese sovereignty.
The Movement held the Israeli occupation fully responsible for the repercussions of what it termed ongoing crimes and aggressive policies.
Hamas also voiced solidarity with Lebanon and urged Arab and Muslim nations to coordinate efforts and take meaningful steps to counter Israeli actions, warning that continued assaults threaten security and stability across the region.
The statement followed intensified fighting along the Lebanese front. Earlier in the day, Israeli warplanes carried out large-scale airstrikes targeting Beirut’s southern suburbs and areas in southern Lebanon.
Lebanese sources reported that at least 52 people were killed and more than 154 wounded in the bombardment, which they described as a breach of the ceasefire agreement that has been in place since November 2024.
The Israeli military said it struck over 70 sites across Lebanon, including what it identified as weapons depots and rocket launch positions.
In response, Hezbollah announced it had joined the confrontation, firing volleys of rockets toward Israeli towns and settlements.
The Movement said its actions were retaliatory and framed them as legitimate self-defense amid continued Israeli attacks.
Hostilities along the Lebanese border have persisted since October 2023, resulting in more than 4,000 deaths and roughly 17,000 injuries before escalating into broader conflict in September 2024.
Although a ceasefire was reached two months later, near-daily violations have continued, according to Lebanese officials. Israeli forces also maintain control of five strategic hills captured during the last war, in addition to other long-held positions.
Meanwhile, the Palestinian Islamic Jihad confirmed the killing of a senior commander in its military wing, the Al-Quds Brigades, following an Israeli strike on Beirut’s southern suburbs earlier Monday.
The Movement identified the commander as Adham Adnan Al-Othman, also known as Abu Hamza, 41, who oversaw Al-Quds Brigades operations in Lebanon. It said he was killed in a treacherous Israeli attack at dawn on March 2, and vowed that his death would strengthen its resolve to continue fighting.
The developments come amid broader regional strain, with ongoing U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran since last week and subsequent Iranian missile and drone attacks targeting the Israeli occupation and U.S. military bases in the region, particularly in Gulf states.
