Hamas Movement has announced that its negotiation delegation departed Cairo on Sunday August 25th, 2024 after engaging in discussions with Egyptian and Qatari mediators to assess the outcomes of the most recent round of talks.
During the discussions, Hamas delegation, representing various Palestinian factions, underscored the necessity for Israel to adhere to the agreements established on July 2.
These agreements, which are grounded in a proposal from US President Joe Biden and a United Nations Security Council resolution, were central to the deliberations.
Hamas delegation emphasized that any agreement must encompass a permanent ceasefire, the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip, the freedom of movement of displaced residents to their homes, extensive humanitarian relief and reconstruction efforts, as well as a substantive prisoner exchange arrangement.
Hamas Political Bureau member Izzat al-Rishq’s reported on the outcomes, saying Hamas has expressed its readiness to implement the July 2 agreement, prioritizing the interests of the Palestinian people and stopping the Israeli aggression.
Earlier, Hamas official Mahmoud Al-Mardawi stated that the Hamas delegation’s visit to Cairo was intended to hear directly from the mediators, rather than to resume negotiations.
Speaking to Quds News Network, Al-Mardawi reaffirmed Hamas’s commitment to the terms outlined in the July 2, 2024, agreement.
Al-Mardawi urged the mediators to exert pressure on Israel to honor and implement the agreements according to the mechanisms outlined in Cairo. He asserted that Hamas sees no advantage in revisiting issues that have already been settled.
