DaysofPal- A senior Hamas delegation led by Khalil al-Hayya has arrived in Egypt to begin negotiations on a ceasefire, Israeli troop withdrawal, and a potential prisoner exchange, the Palestinian resistance group confirmed early Monday.
The talks, hosted in the resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh, are part of renewed diplomatic efforts to implement U.S. President Donald Trump’s ceasefire proposal aimed at ending the Israeli genocidal war in Gaza.
Hamas announced on Friday that it had officially submitted its response to Trump’s plan through mediators.
The White House revealed details of the proposal on Monday, saying that “if both parties agree, the war will end immediately.”
Under the U.S. plan, Hamas would release all Israeli captives, both living and deceased, within 72 hours of an agreement, to coordinate on an economic and administrative roadmap for Gaza’s reconstruction.
Earlier on Sunday, Khalil al-Hayya appeared publicly for the first time since surviving an Israeli airstrike on Doha on September 9 that killed several aides and family members.
In a short video aired by Al-Araby TV, al-Hayya said that the destruction and killing he witnesses daily in Gaza outweigh his personal grief.
Meanwhile, Gaza’s Government Media Office reported that Israeli warplanes and artillery carried out more than 93 air raids in the past 24 hours, striking densely populated neighborhoods and displacement zones.
The office condemned the Israeli continued assaults “despite widespread international calls for a ceasefire.”
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry confirmed it will host both Hamas and Israeli delegations on Monday to discuss the prisoner exchange as part of Trump’s proposed framework.
A senior Egyptian diplomat told Al Jazeera that technical discussions to implement the first phase of the U.S. plan will begin Monday in Sharm el-Sheikh.
The diplomat added that Hamas’s delegation had departed from Doha on Sunday, while a Qatari team is expected to join the talks on Monday.
The negotiations come amid cautious optimism that the long-running Israeli genocide, now entering its third year, could see its first breakthrough if both sides commit to Trump’s framework.
