DaysofPal- The Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, denounced the Israeli occupation forces for carrying out a “dangerous criminal escalation” by continuing airstrikes on the Gaza Strip, despite an existing ceasefire agreement.
In a statement released on Thursday, Hamas said Israeli attacks on several areas of Gaza over the past 24 hours had killed at least seven Palestinians, the majority of them children. The group claimed the strikes were a deliberate attempt to violate the ceasefire and derail progress toward the agreement’s second phase.
Hamas described the attacks as a clear breach of the truce, noting that the Israeli occupation is seeking to alter political and security conditions on the ground while avoiding its obligations under the deal.
It called on mediators and guarantor countries to publicly denounce the serious violations directed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, whom the movement accused of responsibility for war crimes.
The group also appealed to the international community to pressure the Israeli occupation to immediately halt its military actions and fully implement the ceasefire.
Hamas said this includes reopening the Rafah border crossing in both directions, facilitating the entry of humanitarian aid and shelter materials, and moving forward without delay to the next phase of the agreement.
Later on Thursday, additional Palestinian casualties were reported as Israeli fighter jets launched a series of heavy airstrikes, supported by artillery fire, on multiple locations across the Gaza Strip. Palestinian officials said the attacks further underscored Israeli continued violations of the ceasefire.
Mahmoud Basal, a spokesperson for Gaza’s Civil Defense, said Israeli forces had carried out multiple attacks on unarmed civilians in both northern and southern Gaza within a single day. He added that the strikes hit homes and tents housing displaced families.
Palestinian sources say ongoing Israeli violations of the ceasefire since it was signed with Hamas have led to the deaths of 425 Palestinians and wounded 1,206 others.
The ceasefire ended a conflict that Palestinian officials have described as genocidal, which began on October 8, 2023, and lasted two years.
The war resulted in more than 71,000 Palestinian deaths, over 171,000 injuries, and massive destruction across the enclave. The United Nations has estimated that rebuilding Gaza will cost around $70 billion.
