DaysofPal — The Palestinian resistance movement Hamas said that the ongoing Israeli bombardment across the Gaza Strip demonstrates the blatant disregard for mediation efforts and international initiatives aimed at ending the war.
In a statement on Thursday, Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem said the continued deaths of Palestinians due to Israeli strikes reflect “clear contempt” by the Israeli occupation for mediators and for the role of what he referred to as the Peace Council.
Qassem accused the Israeli occupation of continuing a campaign of destruction against the Palestinian population, arguing that while tactics may have shifted, the overall military campaign remains unchanged. He also said that statements by guarantor countries about halting the war lack tangible results on the ground.
According to Hamas, Israeli forces have killed 650 Palestinians since the ceasefire agreement took effect, including 198 children and 85 women, and wounded more than 1,600 others during what the group described as repeated violations.
Hamas further stated that since the outbreak of the war on Oct. 7, 2023, more than 72,000 Palestinians have been killed and approximately 172,000 injured.
The group also reported more than 8,000 people missing and widespread destruction affecting roughly 90 percent of civilian infrastructure in Gaza.
The United Nations has previously estimated reconstruction costs for the devastated enclave at about $70 billion.
The figures could not be independently verified, and the Israeli occupation has not immediately commented on the latest statement.
The war, now in its third year, has left most of Gaza’s population dependent on humanitarian aid, with large areas reduced to rubble and basic services severely disrupted.
