The Palestinian movement “Hamas” condemned, on Saturday, statements made by French Prime Minister Jean Castix, in which he claimed that “Jerusalem is the eternal capital of the Jewish people.”
On Friday, the French official said, during his participation in the annual dinner of the Representative Council of Jewish Institutions in France (CRIF), that he would not stop “saying that Jerusalem is the capital of the Jews.”
In a statement, Hamas considered these statements “a clear bias towards the Zionist occupation, and its adoption of its racist agenda and colonial policy against the Palestinian people.”
And she added: “And against his legitimate rights and usurped lands, which are rejected and condemned by all international norms, charters and resolutions.”
It stated that it “does not conform to the position of the European Union, of which France is one of the pillars.”
And she continued: “These statements, which express the double standards pursued by the French government, incite the occupation to continue its crimes against the occupied city of Jerusalem and its Islamic and Christian holy sites.”
In December 2017, former US President Donald Trump announced the recognition of East and West Jerusalem as the alleged capital of Israel, which the international community rejects.
The Palestinians insist on the establishment of a Palestinian state on the borders of the territories occupied by Israel in 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
