Hamas: Aggression Against Leaders’ Families Will Not Alter Palestinian Negotiating Terms

Positive First Day Reported in Israel-Hamas Talks Held in Egypt

DaysofPal- Hamas said the “cowardly Zionist crime” that targeted Azzam al-Hayya, the son of the movement’s leader in the Gaza Strip and head of its negotiating delegation, Khalil al-Hayya, represents a continuation of Israel’s policy of targeting civilians and the families of Palestinian leaders.

The movement said these actions form part of repeated failed attempts to influence the will of the resistance and its political positions through “terror, killing, and psychological pressure.”

In a statement issued on Thursday, Hamas said the contradictions and confusion surrounding the Israeli narrative of the targeting operation exposed the scale of disarray within the Israeli government. The movement added that the incident clearly reflected attempts to pressure the resistance leadership and its negotiating delegation after Israel failed to impose its conditions or achieve its declared objectives.

Hamas also stated that Dr. Khalil al-Hayya and the negotiating delegation had previously been subjected to a criminal assassination attempt in Doha, during which several people from the Palestinian and Qatari peoples were killed, including his son Hammam al-Hayya.

The movement said the incident demonstrated Israel’s determination to target anyone who remains committed to the rights of the Palestinian people and their national principles.

The movement stressed that the Palestinian people, who have sacrificed tens of thousands of martyrs, would not allow the blood of their children and families to become a tool of political blackmail.

Hamas said such crimes would not force the Palestinian negotiator to retreat from core principles or abandon demands for an end to aggression, the lifting of the blockade, and a full withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.

The movement further emphasized that targeting the children of Palestinian leaders would not weaken the position of the resistance, but would instead strengthen its commitment to the rights of the Palestinian people and deepen public support for it. Hamas said the resistance and its leaders are paying the same price as the wider population, sacrificing their sons and families just as Palestinians across the Gaza Strip are doing.

Hamas stressed that Israel’s use of such tactics is a sign of a worsening crisis and an incapacity to subdue the Palestinian people’s will or achieve military or political success. The movement said Israel has therefore turned to a policy of revenge and intimidation through the targeting of civilians and families.

The movement concluded by asserting that the blood of those killed, regardless of the scale of the sacrifices, would remain a source of strength for the steadfastness of the Palestinian people and a motivation to continue defending their legitimate national rights until freedom is achieved and the occupation ends.
