DayofPal—Azzam Al-Hayya, the son of senior Hamas leader Khalil Al-Hayya, has succumbed to his wounds sustained in an Israeli airstrike that targeted him last night east of Gaza City.
Azzam is Al-Hayy’s fourth son killed by Israeli forces. He joined his brothers Osama, Hamza, and Hammam, who were previously killed, along with a large number of members of his family.
Al-Hayya accused Israel of using targeted killings and military escalation to impose political conditions on Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
In statements released on Wednesday night, Al-Hayya said the Israeli attack in the Al-Daraj neighborhood that killed his son was part of “systematic policy” against the Palestinian people.
The strike also reportedly killed Hamza Al-Sharbasi and injured multiple civilians.
Al-Hayya linked the incident to ongoing ceasefire negotiations, arguing that Israel has repeatedly attempted to pressure Palestinian negotiators through military operations and targeted attacks.
He referenced previous incidents involving the Palestinian negotiating delegation, including an event that took place in Doha in September.
According to Al-Hayya, Israel is seeking to shape political outcomes through what he called “pressure by fire,” presenting Palestinians with two choices: accepting political concessions or facing continued military escalation and attacks on civilians and leaders.
He added that recent Israeli threats to expand the war in the Gaza Strip carry both political and military objectives, aimed at breaking Palestinian resolve and reinforcing a message that “all Palestinians are targets without exception.”
Al-Hayya said attacks against members of his own family would not alter Hamas’s position, stressing that Palestinians share a “common fate.”
He also accused Israel of using changing narratives to justify military attacks and assassinations.
The Hamas leader further claimed that Israel has continued violating ceasefire understandings reached under international mediation.
He said the ceasefire agreement, which was expected to be fully implemented in October 2025, has faced repeated breaches, including continued killings, restrictions on humanitarian aid, and limitations at border crossings.
Al-Hayya stated that Hamas has provided mediators and guarantor states with daily reports documenting violations, while accusing Israel of ignoring the complaints and focusing primarily on security demands rather than humanitarian commitments.
He called on international mediators, “particularly the United States,” to pressure Israel into implementing the agreement and fulfilling obligations related to humanitarian access and the next phase of negotiations.
Al-Hayya also said Hamas remains prepared to move forward with the second stage of the ceasefire agreement once the first phase is fully implemented.
He noted that the movement had conveyed this position during meetings with former UN envoy Nikolay Mladenov.
