DayofPal– The Gaza Strip remains a graveyard for civilians as Israel’s relentless assault stretches into its 18th month, leaving behind a staggering toll of human suffering.
According to the Gaza Government Media Office, Israeli forces have killed more than 52,200 Palestinians since the start of the genocide in October 2023, a campaign that Palestinian officials and human rights organizations describe as a “war of extermination.”
In a detailed report released this week, the Media Office painted a devastating picture of the scale and systematic nature of the killings: Over 65% of those killed are children, women, and the elderly. More than 18,000 children and 12,400 women have lost their lives under Israeli fire.
At least 2,180 Palestinian families have been completely wiped out, fathers, mothers, and all children killed together, while another 5,070 families have been nearly eradicated, leaving behind only a single survivor in each case.
The destruction has gutted Gaza’s healthcare system: over 1,400 doctors and healthcare workers have been killed. Humanitarian workers have also been targeted: 113 civil defense personnel and more than 750 aid workers have died while carrying out life-saving missions.
In what watchdogs call an assault on the truth itself, 212 journalists have been deliberately killed. In addition, the education sector has been shattered with the deaths of 13,000 students, over 800 teachers, and more than 150 scientists, academics, and university professors. Thousands of other civil servants and critical infrastructure workers have also perished.
The Media Office stated that evidence from human rights groups, international organizations, and even testimonies from Israeli pilots themselves confirms that civilians have been systematically targeted.
“The occupation does not distinguish between a child, a woman, an elderly person, a doctor, a journalist, or a paramedic,” the statement read.
Since Israel resumed its intensified operations on March 18, more than 2,100 additional Palestinians, the vast majority women and children, have been killed, driving the overall death toll even higher.
The international community continues to sound alarms over the escalating humanitarian catastrophe, but despite mounting calls for a ceasefire and accountability, the bloodshed shows no sign of slowing.
