DayofPal– The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) has cautioned that the lack of aid trucks entering Gaza is forcing Gazans to search through the rubble of destroyed buildings for food and basic necessities, putting their lives at risk of death or injury from unexploded bombs.
DRC’s executive regional director for the Middle East, Lilu Thapa, said that people in Gaza face the “threat of starvation due to an almost total blockade of aid and goods” alongside the “ever-present danger of unexploded ordnance, a threat that will stay long after the fighting subsides”.
A new DRC report has found that 70 percent of people in Gaza said they had returned to areas that had witnessed military invasions, putting them at higher risk from unexploded bombs amid no alternatives for living.
23% others said they know many who had been injured or killed by unexploded bombs, including children who had played with them and people mistakenly picking them up when gathering firewood.
Thapa added that the inaction to reach a ceasefire in Gaza “looks more like absolute indifference by the day”, describing the continued lack of accountability for Israel as a “[stark illustration] of a global double standard”.
Humanitarian aid to Gaza has hit an all-time low with the appalling situation in northern Gaza the tip of a terrible iceberg, according to Save the Children Organization.
Washington Post reported that a leaked internal memo from the United Nations revealed that organized crime groups have been steadily seizing essential aid supplies in Gaza Strip directly controlled and monitored by Israeli forces, further deepening the already catastrophic humanitarian crisis in the blockaded enclave.
