The Government Media Office in Gaza has issued a press statement on Israel’s handing over of Palestinian bodies, Monday August 5th, 2024.
The office revealed that the Israeli occupation army has desecrated and degraded the remains of 89 Palestinians, handing them over as skeletons and decayed Bodies.
The office deemed it a crime added to the long record of Israeli army’s crimes since the onset of war, revealing that they had previously stolen these bodies during the genocide, and has now returned them as skeletons and decayed bodies, in a manner that disgraces humanity.
In today’s atrocity against these remains, the Israeli occupation handed over the martyrs in only 35 shrouds. Among them, 13 bodies were placed in a single shroud, 22 bodies in another shroud, and the remaining bodies were scattered across several shrouds in a degrading and humiliating manner.
The occupation had previously seized more than 2,000 dead bodies from dozens of graves in the Gaza Strip over 304 days following the genocide, demolishing the cemeteries with bulldozers and military equipment.
“This is a violation of human decency and feeling,” the office added.
The “Israeli” occupation has repeated this crime several times during its genocidal war on Gaza, previously exhuming graves in Khan Younis, Jabalia, and the Tuffah neighborhood, stealing some of the martyrs’ bodies.Additionally, it still holds dozens of bodies.
The removal, transportation, and alteration of bodies are considered war crimes and crimes against humanity, punishable under international law, it added.
“We strongly condemn the occupation’s commission of this crime that is a disgrace to humanity and call on international and global organizations to condemn these heinous acts.”
This new crime against humanity adds to the series of atrocities committed by the “Israeli” occupation army, which, with the green light from the United States, has engaged in acts of murder against civilians, children, and women.
“We hold the Israeli occupation and the U.S. administration fully responsible for these crimes and demand an independent international investigative committee to look into the occupation army’s abduction of martyr remains and the theft of their vital organs.”
