DaysofPal- The Gaza Ministry of Health warned on Wednesday that hospitals across the Gaza Strip are facing a severe shortage of medical supplies, with deficits in essential consumables reaching 71 percent, threatening the continued delivery of lifesaving care.
The ministry said that the ongoing Israeli restrictions on the entry of medicines and medical equipment are exacerbating the crisis and could drive shortages of essential drugs beyond 60 percent in the coming period, placing thousands of patients at serious risk.
Health officials said hospitals are already struggling to meet rising medical needs amid dwindling stocks, warning that many cancer patients may soon be unable to access vital treatments due to the lack of necessary medications.
The ministry also highlighted the difficulties faced by patients and wounded individuals seeking treatment outside Gaza, citing Israeli-imposed travel bans, administrative delays, and other obstacles that have sharply limited medical referrals abroad.
At the same time, dozens of categories of essential medicines remain prohibited from entering the territory.
Since October 7, 2023, the Israeli occupation has carried out a sustained genocidal war against Gaza, with the support of the United States and several European countries, that left widespread destruction, displacement, and severe humanitarian consequences.
The Israeli genocidal war has continued despite repeated international calls for a halt and rulings by the International Court of Justice urging measures to prevent further harm.
According to official figures, more than 242,000 Palestinians have been killed or wounded since the start of the war, most of them women and children.
More than 11,000 people are still missing, while hundreds of thousands have been displaced. Health authorities say widespread hunger and famine-like conditions have claimed numerous civilian lives, particularly among children, amid extensive damage to infrastructure across the Gaza Strip.
