DaysofPal — The civil defense in Gaza stated on Thursday that an estimated 8,000 bodies remain buried beneath the debris of destroyed buildings across the Gaza Strip despite ongoing recovery operations.
Spokesperson of the civil defense Mamoud Basal said that rescue teams are continuing search efforts under extremely challenging conditions, citing severe shortages of equipment and resources that hinder access to heavily devastated areas.
He added that more than 3,000 people are still listed as missing, with no clear information regarding their fate, whether they remain alive, were killed, or are being held in detention.
According to Basal, recovery teams have encountered hundreds of bodies that are decomposed or unidentifiable due to the long period they remained under rubble and the absence of sufficient heavy machinery and technical tools needed for safe debris removal.
Search operations are ongoing, but officials warn that the lack of personnel and specialized equipment could significantly hamper efforts to recover victims and determine the fate of the missing in the coming period.
